Youth Program Curriculum

The youth program is designed to teach each student a respect for themselves and others through the principles of: Effort, Etiquette, Self Control, Character, Sincerity, Courtesy, Patience, Persistence and Perseverance, all while learning the art of self protection.

Goal setting, responsibility and fun are introduced into the system by testing for higher levels and maintaining consistency in attendance.  Daily, Monthly, Quarterly and yearly Goals are set to ingrain this important attribute.

Reinforcement or repetition will help the student maintain steady growth and enthusiasm, as such parental involvement is very important and encouraged as is the corresponding behaviors at home and school.

The Program for kids takes approximately 3 years which reinforces a commitment to the learning process. Two classes are recommended per week and missed classes can be made up by attending a third session during the following week. Advanced classes will be invitation only between level of purple and blue depending on the individual.

Children will learn in a safe, clean and encouraging environment.

Interactive Program:

Upon enrolling in our Martial Arts course we encourage our young members to develop character traits that will serve them throughout their lives.  We offer an interactive program that involves these traits at School and Home.  For each new belt color level each youth member must display one of our 9 prescribed for 30 straight days.

Belt Rank Principle Accomplishment
Yellow Belt Effort Trying to succeed at an endeavor.
Orange Belt Etiquette Proper Manners in given situations.
Red Belt Self Control Control of actions and/or thoughts
Purple Belt Character Quality of the individual.
Blue Belt Sincerity Honesty with yourself and others.
Green Belt Courtesy Treating others as you want to be treated.
Brown Belt Patience Waiting quietly for the proper time.
Prep Black Persistence Continually showing effort.
Jr. Black Belt Perseverance Continuing no matter how hard it is.

You set the parameter at home they must accomplish, (i.e. for Effort keeping their shoe in the right place), for 30 days.  When they have accomplished this tell the Instructor and they will recieve a free patch with the word on it.  They are then presented in front of their entire class and applauded to help reinforce the process and task!

Attach them to either the sleeve or pant leg, the suggested area as when in T-Shirts they can still wear them proudly.  Taking pride in these traits will help reinforce it as part of their character.

They work and earn only one at a time as this enhances their ability to focus as well!

Make it simple so it is also fun and they will grow and learn at a much higher rate!  Remember it is interactive so really urge them on and congratulate them on each accomplishment!  This will make them more responsive to positive input and eager for more!

When all 9 are collected the School Presents them with a New Black Uniform that only those that have made all 9 can wear.  This again reinforces the program as this is also presented in class in front of their peers.

When they earn their Black Uniform (Gi), they can start the program over again for a special gift from the School.

Testing

All testing is done in class so no additional time is needed.  We also do not charge a testing fee for any Youth Tests.!

This program was developed by Evan Pantazi (BA Education) to help reinforce proper character traits in the younger students, when it is the most effective.  It has been a fantastic motivational tool that has done wonders over the many years we have used it!

Sincerely,

-Evan Pantazi
